Bona To Vada, One and Everyone!

Hullo Hullo all.

There are any number of reasons you might have stumbled upon this blog. Whatever your reasons, I'm quite happy you've found it, and hope you'll find something worthwhile in it.

For those who don't know, my name is Deniz, and I've found I quite enjoy the act of creation. As such, I've written any number of tales, tall and short and every animal between. My focus lies in the mingling of words and pictures, which some call "Graphic Novels", but which will forever be "Comics" to me. I've found a number of fantastic collaborators, individuals who have been generous with their time, input, and creative energies, who have come together with me in these tiny little births.

I'm quite excited about it, as you may have guessed.

Without boring anyone with the personal details of my life, what I'm interested in doing is bringing constructive, thoughtful stories to this medium. My ethos is that everything I co-create should attempt to do something novel with every installment (be it a 20 page issue, a 10 page short, a 1 page strip, or a 120 page graphic novel). There are all sorts of ways to innovate - in content and in structure and in technique - and I intend to explore all of them, in way or another.

Neil Gaiman, when he described working on Sandman, once said that part of his excitement was that every time he sat down to write an issue he got to try something he had never tried before. Ways of expressing and delivering information, sometimes subtle sometimes overt, sometimes failing and sometimes succeeding.

This ethic is right there on the page, every issue. You can see it in the panel borders - or lack thereof, in some cases - you can see it creeping in the text, the eyes, everything.

I hope to do the same. I have no doubt that at times something we try will fail, but in that failure I'll no doubt scavenge some success, some essential piece of information for next time. And hopefully even our failures will be glorious, spectacular in the way that a dying star eating itself is spectacular. So long as they're not small failures, I think we'll have fun.

This blog will serve as a kind of workblog for me, and my projects. You'll see character sketches, rough layouts, teases and blurbs. You'll see a few full stories, too. Sometimes you'll just see a thought that occurs to me as I'm writing, or reading. Sometimes it will be a rant. You'll see influences, as I find them, as they come.

If you like what you see, I ask that you share it in some way with those you think might like it too. If you're an artist and you like what you see enough that you think you might like to collaborate, please get in touch; I'm always developing something new, and at the very least I love talking craft.

Everyone who reads this blog, who reads work in which I have been involved...I look at you all as collaborators. It is the intersection of you and me (and my collaborators) that create the story ; without you to read it, and more importantly interpret it in a way that only you can, the story doesn't exist.

Some come and join us. Let's build something together.
